RESOLUTION TO CLOSE TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAYS AUGUST 27th: The Clerk presented the above
resolution and on motion by Alderman Prickett and seconded by Figard the Council
approved the resolution.
LETTER FROM V.F.W. POST NO. 2992: The Clerk read the above letter requesting
permission to hold their Carnival at Touhy and River Road. They were requested
to get permission from the people on Hickory IAvenue.
CHICAGO "HAVE A' HEART" CHARITIES: A letter from the above organization regard-
ing permission for a tag .day September 13, 1960 was read. They are to contact
the Des Plaines Community Chest.

District Supervisor reporting the above.

SIDEWALKS ON OAKTON STREET: Alderman -�:/reported the following"Your
Your
Committee on Board of Local Improvements has investigated the above and has
found that the State -of Illinois will do nothing on the above unless a major
improvement of•Oakton Street was being done. Above information was givens to
our Engineer Fletcher. We your Board of Local Improvements,. therefore re- '
commend that no action be taken at this time as the City of Des Plaines does
not have the:necessary funds for this project." -_
The Mayor received a proclamation for the United Nations Day and appointed
Alderman Figard Chairman for that day.
At request of Alderman Blume, the licensing and inspection of swimming pools was
.referred to the License and Inspection Committee.
At request of . L1derman Tistle, the Mayor instructed Mr. Wiedeman to contact
the builder on Prospect Avenue about completing building.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Tistle and seconded'by Prickett

OF THE CITY COUNCIL,. IES PLAINES,
ILLINOIS, HELD IN COUNCIL ROOM,
CITY HALL, JUNE 13, 1960 AT 8:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER: .The meeting was called to order by Mayor Herbert H. Behrel, with
Alderman -Jackson, Blume, Tures, Wright, Flauter, Figard, Prickett, Tistle,
Masaman, Bell and Moehling responding to roll call.
Alderman Neff appeared about ten minutes later and Alderman Rateike a few
minutes later. .

The Mayor informed the Council the adjourned meeting was to take up the
ordinance on Markle -Korff Gear Compamp sewer service. The attorney for the
company, I. Bradley, the attorney for Orchard Place Sanitary District;'
C. Wagner of the, Sanitary District and K. Meyer, attorney, all spoke on
the subject.
Alderman Moehling read an amendment which would amend the ordinance on
page 4 and 5 starting at Section 3. On motion by,Alderman.Moehling and
seconded by Massman, the Council approved the amendment.
After long discussion, the motion was made by Alderman Moehling and seconded
by Massman to adopt the `ordinance. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk
called the roll with the following results: Ayes: Alderman Blume, Wright
Tures, Neff, Moehling, Flauter, Figard, Prickett, Vie, Massmanm and
Jackson. Nays: Alderman ikeand Bell. The Mayor declared the motion
carried.
ADOPT AIRCRAFT RESQLUTIOT:. Alderman Moehling presented the' above resolution
and on motion by Alderman Prickett and seconded by Moehling, the Council
adopted the resolution.
MAYOR APPOINTS, AERONAUTIC COMMITTEE: The Mayor appointed Alderman Moehling,
Chairman with Alderman nailer and Rateike as the Aeronautic Committees and
on -motion by Alderman Figard and seconded by.Tistle, the Council approved same.
ZONING BOARD REPORTS: The Clerk submitted -.Q ti+o Zoning Board reports, both
of which they recommended be denied. One report was the Southwest corner
of Golf and Potter Road to rezone to Commercial and the other at the same
location, to Multiple Family. On motion by Alderman Blume and seconded by
Massman, they were referred to the Municipal Development Coannittee.
ADOPT COMPTROLLER -ORDINANCE: The Clerk read for the first reading the
Ordinance creating, the office of Comptroller. On motion by Alderman Prickett
and seconded by Figard,' the ordinance was placed on passage. The motion
was then made by Alderman Prickett and seconded by Figard to adopt the
ordinance. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the roll with
the following results: Ayes: Alderman Rateike, Blume, Wright, Tures, Neff,
Moehling, Flauter, Figard, Prickett, Tistle, Massman, Bell, Jackson. Nays:
None. The Mayor declared the motion carried..
FIRST READING TRAFFIC ORDINANCE: The Clerk read for the first reading, the
above ordinance effecting several streets.
FIRST READING OF AMENDMENT TO SWIMMING POOL ORDINANaE: The Clerk read for
the first reading the above ordinance regarding permit. fee.
TO ADVERTISE BIDS ON GASOLINE: On motion by Alderman Prickett and seconded
by Rateike the Council approved to advertise bids for gasoline to be returned
at the July 5th meeting
TO PURCHASE MOTORCYCLE 'Chief Kennicott informed the Council that the
Policemen's Assn. had purchased a three wheeled motorcycle from the Evanston
Police i1 partment. He suggested the Council purchase another motorcycle.
They are reconditioned and had been replaced by'new motorcycles. Chief
Kennicott said the parking meter cycle would have to be replaced soon'and
these motorcycles will have radios installed. The motion was made by Alder.
man Tures and seconded by Wright' to° purchase the motorcycle. The Mayor put
the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes:
Alderman Rateike,,Blume,nWright, Tures, Neff, Moehling, Flauter, Figard,
Prickett, Tistle, Massman, Bell, Jackson. Nays: None. The Mayor declared
the motion carried.
WATER WELL REPAIRS: BY NESLEY: Alderman Tures and Supt. Wernicke reported
Well No. 2 needed repairs and suggested Cliff Neeley Company be negotiated
with to: do the work on the same basis as Cater Well repairs. On motion by
Alderman.Massman:and seconded by Tures, the:Council:approved to negotiate
with Cliff Neeley Company but Alderman Neff voted "no".

WOLF ROAD BRIDGE: ' The motion was made by Alderman Jackson and seconded by
Massman that the City Clerk be authorized to sign the attached resolution
and return two copies to the Cook County Supt. of Highways.
Alderman Neff presented a letter from Mr. 114R. Preston regarding toll -gate
at Lee Street and Toll Road. The Mayor requested letter be given City Clerk.
Chief Kennicott informed the Council that the 35 M.P.H. on C amp Ground Road
should be .changed to 25 M.P.H. and that a survey should be made. On motion
by Alderman Prickett and seconded by Tistle, the Council approved to have
this survey made but to include Thacker St. from Belt line west to the City
Limits. '
Aldermen Jackson made the following report on opening Brown St.t "Your Committee
on Streets and Traffic has investigated the above and has found that the owners
are willing toaccept appraisal price of 115,500 plus 10% - *550 or a total price
of $6,050. 'We, your Committee on Streets and Traffic, therefore, recommend
that the CityAttorney be instructed to contact Mr. George C. Lagerhausen at
Va 4-3131 and proceed to sdup a conditional sale dependent upon our receiving
permission fram the State to utilize motor .f�i-tax funds, and further that
the City Engineer be instructed to apply to the State for above funds.' 0n
motion.by Alderman Jackson and seconded by R$tedWt, the Council approved
the report. _

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Herbert H. Behrel

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The motion was made by Alderman Prickett and seconded
by Bell to.approve the minutes of, June 6th and adjourned meeting of June '
13th, 1960. After several small corrections, the Council approved the motion
by.acclamation.

Attorney Dowd reported a case filed by Elmer Heifers for injuries on fall on
sidewalk on First Avenue between Woodlawn and Greenview Avenue. The Mayo
referred the complaint to the Judiciary Committee for study and report. The
attorney made verbal r eports on progress of Barry and Park Ridge Cases.
Alderman Bell reported the Municipal Development Committee will meet June 27th
for all items .
Motion was.made by Alderman Tures and seconded by Figard to appoint six more
Police Reserves. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the roll
with the following results: Ayes: Alderanan Rateike, Bliime, Wright, Tures, Neff,
Moehling, Flauter, Figard, Prickett, Tistle, Massman, Bell, Jackson, Callaghan.
Lays: None. The,Mayor declared the motion carried.
Alderman Callaghan made a progress report on r eviewing ordinance for United
Fund drive.
G RANT DRIVEWAY REQIEST ON NORTH AVENUE NEAR FIRST AVENUE: The motion was
made by tAlderman Jackson and seconded by Massman to grant permit for private
driveway on North Avenue between First and Second Avenue. The motion was
approved.
"CHILDREN AT PLAY" SIGNS - 1600-1700 BLOCKS OF STOCKTON AVE: The motion was
made by Alderman Jackson. and seconded by. Bell that . the Supt. of Public Works
