MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, HELD
IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CIVIC
CENTER, MONDAY MAY 24, 1976.
CALL TO ORDER: The adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City
of Des Plaines was called to order by Mayor Herbert H.
Behrel at 7:45 P.M. in the City Council Chamber, Des
Plaines Civic Center.
ROLL CALL: Roll Call indicated the following aldermen present:
Sullivan, Bolek, Leer, Brannigan, Kisslinger, Birchfield,
Erbach, Kraves, Sarlo, Meyer, Abrams, Ward. Absent were
Koplos, Szabo, Olen and Seitz.
EXECUTIVE Council recessed to an executive session for the purpose
SESSION: of interviewing attorneys to represent the City for
collective bargaining.
Alderman Olen and Alderman Koplos arrived during this
session.
Mayor Behrel announced that the City will enter a
mobile sweeper and truck from the Public Works Department,
a Police Department van, and a hand pumper, hose cart,
and an antique fire truck in the Fourth of July Parade.
ORDINANCE Placed on First Reading was Ordinance Z -9 -76, AN ORDINANCE
Z -9 -76 GRANTING A VARIATION UNDER THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE
Graceland Ave. CITY OF DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Zoning Case No. 76 -17 -V,
property located at 550 Graceland Avenue.
III ORDINANCE Alderman Sarlo requested that the proposed ordinance
BIRD FEEDING having to do with bird feeding be referred to the City
Code and Judiciary Committee for study and report.
VARIATION, Moved by Ward, seconded by Birchfield, to adopt the
550 Graceland recommendation of the Municipal Development Committee,
Avenue to approve the request for a variation to permit a
30 -inch encroachment for one parking space into the
required 12 -1/2 foot front yard in the R -5 Central Core
Multiple Family District, property located at 550 Graceland
Avenue, and authorize the City Attorney to draft the
necessary ordinance (Ordinance Z- 9 -76). Moved by Koplos,
seconded by Sarlo to defer action.
ADJOURNMENT: Moved by Meyer, seconded by Brannigan that the adjourned
meeting of the City Council adjourn.
