05/15/1995CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Des Plaines, Illinois, was called to order by Mayor Ted Sherwood at 7:00 p.m. in the Eleanor Rohrbach Memorial Council Chambers, Des Plaines Civic Center on Monday, May 15, 1995. King, Jr. addressed the City 95 -30 -V Council regarding this matter. 2838 SCOTT: Mr. Wayne Serbin, 835 Pearson, addressed the City Council stating his support of this request. Moved by Chiropolos, seconded by Christiansen, to not concur with recommendation of Des Plaines Zoning Board of Appeals and recommend to the City Council re Zoning Case 95 -30 -V, to deny request for Variation to permit construction of a 12' x 22' addition to existing 24' x 30' detached garage which would exceed the total maximum permitted dimensions of 24' x 30' for an accessory structure on property located at 2838 Scott Street in R -2 Single Family Residence District. Moved by Beauvais, seconded by Sarlo, to concur with Staff recommendation and recommend to the City Council to grant request for Variation to permit construction of an 11 gauge 8' high wire fence along the south side yard and the southerly 200' of the east front yard; and a split rail -type 8' high, 90% open fence, along the remaining approximately 150' of the front yard; and further recommend that the petitioner provide written assurance that the gate would have emergency entry capability for Fire and Police services. FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION - Alderman Christiansen, Chair WARRANT Mr. Jack Flynn, 1271 Fargo Avenue, addressed the City REGISTER: Council stating that he thinks items should be discussed at one meeting and then held until the next meeting before approval. Moved by Christiansen, seconded by Beauvais, to concur with Staff recommendation and recommend to the City Council approval of May 15, 1995 Warrant Register in the amount of $2,037,340.66; and Resolution R -31 -95 be adopted at appropriate time this evening. Mr. John Burke, 1351 Evergreen Avenue, addressed the City Council expressing his concern for the fate of the old brick building located in the triangle property (River Road, Miner Street, Pearson Street) scheduled for redevelopment; he is asking that the house be saved; he has done some research which indicates that the house dates back to 1853; it may be the second oldest house in Des Plaines (the oldest being the Issac Walton Center on River Road); delay tearing it down; maybe the developer can incorporate it into the new design.
