PRESIDENTS BIRTHDAY BALL: Alderman Frederick
explained the purpose of tne .birthday Ball for the President
to be held January 30,1936 at the Maine Township High School
Gymnasium, and urged all to attend.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The motion was made by
Alderman Pflughaupt and seconded by Frederick to approve,
as written, the minutes of the regular Council meeting
held January 6,1936. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried and the said minutes
approved.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Mayor Kinder announced that the
Council will meet as a committee of the whole in the City
Clerk's office immediately after the close of this session
to prepare the 1936 Appropriation Ordinance and to meet with
representatives of Jonathan Cook & Co. regarding bill for
the audit of Special Assessments #75 and f77 presented by
the said company.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Ahbe
and seconded by Frederick that the Council adjourn to
Monday, January 27,1936. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declaet the motion carried
and the Council adjourned to Monda,.an,1936.

ON THE 27th DAY OF JANUARY 1936 AT THE
HOUR OF 8:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by
Mayor George W.ninder, presiding, with Aldermen Ahbe, Carroll,
Pflughaupt, . 'ulle, MacLuckie, Frederick, Lemke, Schwanbeck and
Campagna. responding to the roll call. Alderman bishop was
absent during the entire meeting.
DRAIN PIPE FOR RESERVOIR P.W.A.PROJECT #7270. The
Clerk then read the following report:
To Chairman Lemke, Sewer, Drainage and Sanitation Committee,
at th.e meeting of the City Council, held January 6 1936, the
following matter was referred to your committee:
The matter of getting bids for the construction of
the necessary drain pipe in connection with the
construction of the new Reservoir and Softening
Plant - P.W.A.Project 0270.

Yuur Committee on the above has investigated the above
and has found: Five bids received for the construction of
additional sewer pipe for P.W.A.Project ,t7270. Bids as follows:
: 330. , : 372.14 , :408.00, 4966.00 and 411 b0.00.
We therefore recommend: That the construction of the
additional s ewer be given to: Rt. Matt Okes, 577 Des Plaines
Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois for the sum of three hundred
and thirty dollars 1:330.00) Mr. '".0kes being the lowest
bidder.

NEW MUNICIPAL BUILDING: Alderman kacLuckie, chair-
man of the Committee on Public Works, .buildings and Plats,
then read the following report:
To Chairman of Public Works,Duildings & Plats Committee,
at.the meeting of the City Council held Sept.28 1935 the
following matter was referred to your committee:
The matter of a letter from G.E. Ramsey,Jr, Divisional
Expediter for the Administrator, that owing to the late
date the request for a grant for a new city hall, or munici-
pal building, was received, it is not eligible for consider-
ation at the present time.

Your Committee on Public Works & Plats has investigated the
above and has found that it will be impracticable to go on
with the above project foie the following reasons:l.In view
of the rejection of the above grant;2. consideration of the
small bid of :36,000. for the old property; 3.That this
Council has all it can do at this time to take.care of the
projects already in progress.4. That a definite disposition
of this contemplated municipal improvement will simplify matters.
We therefore recommend:That the entire project, both as to the
sale of the old city hall and the further seeking of a grant
from the federal government be dropped.

beck and Campagna. Nays; None. The Mayor thereupon declared the
motion to re -commit carried.
The motion was made by Alderman MacLuckie and seconded by
Campagna to concur in this report. A. motion was however
made by Alderman Frederick and seconded by Carroll to re-
commit this matter to the committee on Public Works, Build-
ings and Plats and await further notice from the Public
Works Administration. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk
1936 APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE: The Clerk then
presented a rough draft of the 1936 Appropriation Ordinance,
whereupon the Council deliberated upon each appropriation
separately. The motion was made by Macluckie and seconded
by Frederick that the janitor of the City Hall be paid a
regular monthly salary of $110.00 instead of paying him
on an hourly rate basis as in the past, and that therefor
the appropriation for salary of Janitor of the City Hall
be set at $1320.00. The motion was voted upon by accla-
mation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Ahbe and seconded
by Frederick to appropriate 4300.00 for motorcycles in the
Police Department. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk
called the roll with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen
Ahbe and r'ulle. Nays; Aldermen Carroll, rflughaupt, MacLuckie,
Frederick, Lemke, Schwanbeck and Campagna. The Mayor thereupon

declared the motion defeated. The Lotion was, then made by
Alderman Carroll and seconded by Frederick to appropriate
$300.00 for miscellaneous motor equipment for the police
Department. the Mayor put the question and the Clerk
called the roll with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen
Ahbe, Carroll, Fulle, Frederick and Schwanbeck. ways; Alder-
men Pflughaupt, MacLuckie, Lemke and Gampagna. The Mayor
thereupon declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Frederick and seconded
by Pflughaupt to increase the salaries of Grace Rexses, assist-
ant_to the 'ireasurer andrearl Aoelling, assistant to the
City Clerk .to 490.00 per month. The Mayor put the question
and the Clerk called the roll with the following result:
Ayes; Aldermen :flughaupt and Frederick. ivays; Aldermen Ahbe,
Carroll, Fulle, MacLuckie, Lemke, Schwanbeck and Campagna.
The Mayor thereupon declared the motion defeated. The motion
was then -made by Alderman Campagna and seconded by i'flughaupt
to increase the salary of Grace Rexses, assistant to the
Treasurer to 485.00 per month, and to adjust the appropriation
accordingly. The Mayor put the question, and the Clerk called
the roll with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen Ahbe,• Carroll,
Pflughaupt, Fulle, Bishop, MacLuckie, Frederick, Lemke, Schwan-
beck and Campagna. Nays; None. The Mayor thereupon declared
the motion carried.
The motion was then made by Alderman Frederick and
seconded by Pflughaupt to increase the salary of Pearl Aoelling,
assistant to the City Clerk, to $85.00 per month, and to adjust
the appropriation accordingly. The Mayor put the question and
the Clerkcalled the roll with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen
Carroll, Pflughaupt, lulle, Frederick, Lemke, Schwanbeck and
Campagna. mays; Aldermen Ahbe and MacLuckie. The Mayor thereupon
declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Frederick and seconded
by MacLuckie to deny the Library Board's request for a substantial
increase in the appropriation for Library purposes, and to set the
total appropriation for Library purposes at $3250.00. The motion
was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the
motion carried.
The Clerk then read a proposed schedule of appropriations
for 1936 Fire Protection totalling 48,570.00. The motion was
maddeby Alderman MacLuckie and seconded by :Frederick to appropriate
the sum of 48,570.00 for Fire Protection for 1936, as set forth
in the riiugh draft rbad by the Clerk. The motion was voted upon
by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Carroll and seconded
by Frederick to adjourn. The motion was voted upon by acclamation,
